Throughout the ECMP 355 course there have been many opportunities for social learning to take place. I have, when possible, assisted fellow classmates with questions they have had regarding various issues we talked about in class. Since I’m a Business Education student, we were all required to blog about our experiences during our pre-internship placement; therefore, I was more familiar with the concept of a blog than some others in the class. For that reason I was able to help them out, and was happy to be of assistance. Anytime, Cori…anytime.
I think it’s awesome to be able to be connected with so many people from throughout the world. Whether it be our mentors or other educators from throughout the world or our classmates, I think it’s awesome to be able to help out or to ask for help when you need it. As I’ve mentioned before, the teaching profession is one of a high level of collegiality. We are all in this for the students, not for ourselves, and since we’re all working towards the same goal then I think it’s very easy to see why we should help each other out. We want our students to have the best experiences ever, so why shouldn’t we work together and make this happen? Social learning is a powerful method. Let’s not let it end.
I’ve really enjoyed the ECMP 355 class and wish I wasn’t working as much so I could spend more time perfecting my technological literacy. I have learned a lot, though, and hope to continue growing technologically while enabling my teaching methods and strategies to be full of fun technology, too. This is what our students are about, it’s what interests them. It’s what they need to know for the future. Let’s do it.
I hope to continue blogging as often as possible and I definitely will write about my internship experiences that will be starting August 24. I can’t wait for that chapter to begin.
Side note: did I tell you that I’m going to be an uncle around the same time that I start interning? Apparently it’s a little niece in there, but I’m just going by my sister’s and her husband’s word. I have no proof. Ha. It’s an exciting time.
Hi Lance
My students have really enjoyed having you and your classmates as mentors.
I think mentoring meets a basic human need between the younger and the older. We “older” types have a responsibility to notice and interact with “younger” types hopefully passing on some wisdom and encouragement on the way. It is true; it takes a whole village to raise a child. Your mentoring was a contribution to the village raising children if only for a few weeks.
Thank you.
I hope to read your followup blog posts. Pat :p
Thanks, Pat. I do certainly wish that I would have been able to contribute more than I did but I’m glad I was able to do what I did do. It was great hearing from the students, they seem very excited about a lot of things happening in their lives which is how it should be. Thanks for the opportunity!
